CAAM Mission

The California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine, while embodying and modeling the principles of Ayurveda, exists to serve humankind through:

  • Supporting the advancement of Ayurveda as an independent and respected profession;
  • Safeguarding the right to practice Ayurveda thru legislation;
  • Ensuring the integrity of Ayurveda as a system of healing that honors the connection between body, mind, and spirit;
  • Establishing, maintaining, and supporting standards of education for schools of Ayurvedic Medicine;
  • Establishing, maintaining, and supporting standards of quality and scope of practice for recognized practitioners of Ayurvedic Medicine;
  • Certifying and accrediting schools of Ayurvedic Medicine;
  • Certifying practitioners of Ayurvedic Medicine;
  • Promoting CAAM Certified Schools and Practitioners; and
  • Educating our communities about what Ayurveda is, and what makes it a unique, holistic, and comprehensive health care system.

CAAM Goals

  • Provide a unified voice for the advancement of the Ayurvedic Profession;
  • Establish a recognized definition of Ayurveda and the scope of practice for the Ayurvedic profession;
  • Assist in the formation of accrediting agency for Ayurvedic school and colleges;
  • Advocate for the creation of a state-approved license for the practice of Ayurveda;
  • Support the development and recognition of a Doctor of Ayurveda degree;
  • Establish a system for administering a continuing education program for Ayurvedic practitioners;
  • Publish a peer-reviewed journal;
  • Support research related to Ayurveda;
  • Set standards for practice for the profession;
  • Establish ethical standards and a review board to investigate and mediate reports of unethical behavior within the profession;
  • Establish a legal defense fund;
  • Organize liability insurance for CAAM members; and
  • Provide a list of practitioners via this website.
